New Year, New Market

Happy 2020!  I just love the way the numbers are the same.  It may be my compulsive tendencies that assist my staging, but seriously, those nice matchy matchy numbers make me so happy.  So, in researching the current state of the real estate market it looks like our market is supposed to continue to be awesome and the rates are staying crazy low, so if you’re even considering selling your house, DO IT!

Here’s a few thoughts on ways to make your house look marketable as you think and prepare.  You’ll enjoy these touches in your home, and so will any potential buyer, so might as well add them to your honey do list while we are still motivated and trying to achieve goals.

1. Check out those cabinet faces!  The honey oak of the 90s is officially OUT!  I don’t care if it was kept in pristine condition, unfortunately its still honey oak.  So, that being said, do not get new cabinets, paint it a lovely neutral, pop on some pretty modern handles and we are set!  A good cabinet paint job is usually no more then a few thousand dollars, whereas replacing cabinets can easily be 8k.

2. Paint your spindles!  This is a simple no brainer which seems difficult in theory (I for sure cannot properly paint a spindle of a stairwell), however, a painter can do an excellent, efficient job for a pretty reasonable price.  The current trend is white with dark stain.  Same story as the cabinets, oak is out!

3. Focus on flooring!  This one is more complicated as it is somewhat case by case, but here’s the basic gist: If your carpet bothers you, it will bother other people even more. The ideal solution is hardwoods or at least vinyl plank flooring.  Current trends are wide planks with either gray or dark wood coloring.  If that is not in the budget, then carpet prior to showing, but don’t allow pets (or messy children like mine) near them.
